THE HISTORY OF ASIA MASTERS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

AMA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Before the formation of a formal body for Asia Master Athletes, championships at Asia level were already held. The first Asian Veterans Athletics Championships were held on 27th July 1981 in Singapore. In the year 2003, the word ‘veterans’ was changed to ‘masters’ in accordance with the change in the world body from WAVA to WMA (World Masters Athletics). AVAA followed the change and became AMA (Asia Masters Athletics). The name of the championships changed from veterans to masters as well. Asia Masters Athletics Championships (AMAC) is held biannually. AMAC is open only to men and women who are 35 years and above who are from Asia, and are medically fit to compete.
